Hi, I had unprotected sex three days before my period starts, evendough I had some spotting that same day. Should I take the next morning pill? or just wait for my period to arrive? Still do not want to get pregnant

Hello Anonymous,

The next morning pill and all emergency contraceptives work by preventing ovulation. In your case, you had already ovulated, so it would not work most effectively.

Wait for your period to start. If it comes on time, there is nothing to worry about because you did not become pregnant.

Moving forward, if you do not want to get pregnant, use protection. Either he wears a condom and/or you choose and use some type of birth control.

Maryann

Hi Dr. I took the pill on 23 Aug, two days after I had unprotected sex (there was a slip up with the condom). On 11 Sep, within 24 hours after another slip-up happened, I took the pill again. Would the pill be ineffective? Thanks for your help.

Had unprotected sex on 20th August and took the pills the same day. I was supposed to start my menses on 4th september but I didn't . I also had unprotected sex on that 4th and took another pill. Upto now I have not started my menses. I'm confused.

Hello Anonymous,

I suggest you contact your gynecologist for an answer. The manufacturer of the pill provide information regarding side effects based on women taking the pill as directed.

There is suggestion that taking the pill more than once in a 30 day period can make it ineffective, that is it will not work.

Postinor 2 prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation. Taking two doses in two days really upset the normal balance of hormones in your body.

Maryann

Hi, Dr. on 6th august i had sex with my bf. I'm afraid that I'm going to pregnant so I bought postinor 2 and i drank 2 tablets at that time. Few weeks later, there's blood on my panties. and last week i tried pregnancy test strips and the result is negative. but i haven't had my period yet. am i okay?

Hello Anonymous,

When is your period due to start? If it is late by more than seven days, then test for pregnancy.

Was the blood on your panties spots or did you need to use a tampon?

Hello E,

Yes, you were still protected against becoming pregnant when you had intercourse the second time. Remember that Postinor and all the emergency contraceptive pills are intended to be used in emergency situations. They were never meant to be used as birth control.

Maryann
