Hello Anonymous,

Since you had vaginal bleeding after the first dose of Positnor 2, it was effective in preventing pregnancy from intercourse on February 2.

Have you had any vaginal bleeding after taking the second dose on February 15?

Vaginal bleeding afterwards is the only way to know if the pill was effective.

Regards,
Maryann

Hello Anonymous,

Postinor 2 is an emergency contraceptive and is taken to prevent pregnancy within 72 hours of unprotected sex. It is not intended to be used as birth control.

Why did your girlfriend take it on Tuesday?

Her period may start later because of taking Postinor 2. If she doesn't get a period within 3 weeks, then she needs to test for pregnancy.

Maryann

My girlfriend and I had unprotected sex on 12 January ( day after her period stops ), we took postinor-2 afterward. Then, we have another unprotected sex on 16 January, and have another dose of postinor-2 the next day. She experienced some light red fluid coming from her vagina ( maybe it's Vagina bleeding but I'm not sure ) 2 weeks ago. But now, her period haven't come yet ( her last period is on 9 January ). I would like to know that will she be pregnant ? She's very worried since there're still no signs of period yet . Hope to get your reply, thanks.

Hello Anonymous,

There was no risk for pregnancy when you had unprotected sex the day after your girlfriend's period ended. And no reason to take Postinor 2.

You should never take more than one dose of Postinor 2 in a one month menstrual cycle. Your girlfriend over dosed when she took the second dose the following day.

She seriously upset the hormonal balance that regulates her menstrual cycle. I urge her to contact her gynecologist to report what has happened. She is not pregnant, that is for certain.

Maryann

Hello Anonymous,

No. Do not take another dose of Postinor 2 before you consult your physician. An emergency contraceptive like Postinor 2 contains a high dose of a synthetic hormone levonorgestrel found in most birth control pills. It prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation.

It is intended for emergency use, is not to be used as a regular form of birth control and should never be taken more than once in a one month period.

Maryann

Hello Anonymous,

All emergency contraceptive, including Postinor 2, are intended for emergency use in the event of contraceptive failure and are not meant to be used as a regular form of birth control.

If you do not want to become pregnant, please use some type of birth control, such as a condom or start taking an oral contraceptive daily.

When was your period due?

You probably were not at risk for pregancy because Postinor 2 works by preventing ovulation. If you do not get your period within three weeks of taking the pill, test for pregnancy.

Maryann

Hi Maryann, I took 2 Postinor on 20th, and another 2 pills on 22nd, (12 hours apart for each time) after unprotected sex. My period was supposed to come on 19-21st. I am a few days late now. I also did not feel any discomfort or serious side effects from the pills, I feel normal. Is this normal? Did my period got delayed because of the pills? What are the chances of pregnancy? Please get back to me soon, as I am very anxious now. Thanks in advance!
