I am 38 year old female with chest pains that burn under the breast bone, pain in both breasts along the sides and upwards towards the underarm area, pain in between shoulder blades as well. I have had the stress test on the treadmill and an echo done as well. I also had ct scan of my lungs to ensure it wasn't a bloodclot. Was told it was acid reflux and was given medicine for it. The medicine does not work worth beans. I am currently waiting for a GI scope since the upper GI I had done with the barrium showed nothing. I am not looking forward to having the camera put down my throat but what else can I do? Seems like the doctors don't know what's going on and they have no idea what to look for.

HI Caroline, Thanks for making your post. I am also 40 with your symptoms. I have also have had to have many abdominal surgeries since I was 18 and my Dad also died from heart disease at 57. You have been blessed with a son which is wonderful. I have recently been told by two differnet sources to take more calcium with Vit. D and also take more Vit. C with a small amoutn of fatty foods. So I think I will give it a try. Do you suffer with INsomnia s well?
Any advice form the soctors is welcome as well. I am atking a thyroid medication which has helped me some.

Caroline,

What kind of doctors are you seeing about these issues? Are you visiting different doctors for the neck and shoulder pain than you are for the gynecological issues?

May I ask why you are against taking pills or medicine if it might help you?

You may be someone who would benefit from finding a naturopathic physician. Naturopathic physicians consider the whole body (not just one or two symptoms) when they do their diagnoses, and they specialize in natural treatments. Here is a page that explains naturopaths. If you are interested, there is a place where you can put in your zip code and find a doctor near you:

Did you have your doctor's appointment yesterday? What is the latest update?

diane hi,no i dont think my shoulder chest pain ect are conected with my gyni problems i am not seeing a gyni any more as she said i was ok except for she could not do what she wanted to do as my womb was too small to take the lining away i have had so many gyni problems over the years .My peroids are changing this month i only had one day off heavy bleeding and it was bad then one day normal and then just spotting really .I am going to see doctor this week hopefully i have my son home as he is ill so i cant get to doctors ,i really think i am starting the change my mum did at 38 so i think i am going to be the same .I think my pain is some thing that could be sorted just need the right doctor .I have joined a slimming club i am also going to start swimming i want to change my life style when my mum started the change she went crazy she didnt look after her self and she had and still has mentle health problems ,i dont intend to be like my mum i all so want to join a yoga class to learn to relax as i worry over everthing and have sufferd from panic attacks since i was 21 years old .My reason for not taking pills ect is i dont want to rely on pills and stuff i have never taken pills, i am also the same with my children ,i have taken pain killers when the pain is bad . And i will look up the web site you have given me i have never heard of this kind of doctor but i am going to see if we have one .MANY THANKS CAROLINE

Good luck with your search, Caroline. Will you come back and let us know what you find out after your doctor's appointment?

Hi Caroline,
It is difficult to understand your questions without any use of punctuation or sentences, so I will try my best to tweak out your symptoms and provide some information.

Your symptoms (currently) are:
pain in your chest, breast, shoulders and between shoulder blades
bloating
tummy problems
heart burn
weight gain ("got fat around my middle")
weakness
tired most of time
feel down (sad?)
heavy periods (2-3 days)
today's period was very heavy with a clot

You have had many tests done on your heart, abdomen and those are normal.
You have experienced pain with heavy periods in the past.

You said you have been having gynecological problems since the age of 18, and now at 40 years of age, you are having the above symptoms. How long have you been experiencing these symptoms listed above?

The primary symptom of menopause or perimenopause is irregular periods, lack of periods or missed periods. The symptoms you currently have could be many different conditions---either physical, emotional or combination of both---and do not themselves indicate menopause or perimenopause.

When you go to your doctor, it is important to have your hormone levels checked, as that will provide the most information. You can read more about this at: New Blood Test (2009) may predict start of menopause.

I hope to hear back from you, to know what your thoughts are about getting your hormone levels checked, but I'm also wondering...if you have been experiencing these symptoms for 6 months-1 year (or longer), what treatments have you tried? Do you feel that your "feeling down" could be depression? Depression can most certainly correlate to other physical symptoms that you've described, whether or not you are entering menopause or not.

HI Alison yes its me again. We are now in august and still i am in pain ,neck, shoulders, between shoulder blades, chest, feeling tired ,dull head aches, periods to date but with changes .Ijust wish i could feel well again ,i have been to doctors so many times had so many heart tests ,they all came back normal scan on my tummy ,normal.Ihad blood tests done a few weeks ago and am border line over active thyroid,i go back on the 19th of aug for more blood tests .Icould put some of my problems down to this ie tired eyes fell like they have weights on them cant sleep at night, eating more .no weight loss,no gain in weight, even the changes in my peroids, mood swings short hot flushes.I still cant get to the bottom of my pains its taking over my life and i am worn out with it i fight it all the time and make my self go on when it would be so easy to give up.I am sick of going to the doctors and i am sure there sick of me they have done tests and all are normal except the thyroid which i dont think is causing my problems as i have had them for over a year and am only border line.I HOPE MY SPELLING IS BETTER AND YOU ARE ABLE TO UNDER STAND WHAT I HAVE WROTE ,MANY THANKS CAROLINE1969
