Collapsed lung still has air pocket in pleural

My daughter was in an accident Sunday and they took tube out last night(Wednesday). It collasped Tuesday overnight when they took it out. She still has air pocket in pleural space xray shows and they want to discharge her today because "They need the room for other patients" and "you're young and it'll come out on it's own" She had surgery on her arm Tuesday (plate & 9 screws) and it's been bleeding thru because they said they put wrong splint on and just kept wrapping with gauze saying it's can't be touched until surgeon comes. And no surgeon has came. I'm on way to pick her up now... Should I take her to get a second opinion??? I'm worried about the care she's gotten.

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. I am sorry to hear that your daughter was in an accident and concerned that she is being discharged so soon.

By tube, I am assuming she was intubated and on a ventilator.

A collapsed lung happens when air enters the pleural space, the area between the lung and the chest wall. It can happen after being on a ventilator.

Discharge does seem hasty.

If you have already brought her home by the time you read my reply, keep a very close eye on her and call your primary care physician, if some one is still in the office.

Regards,
Maryann
