I had just ended my period the day before I had sex with my boyfriend. (Thursday, december 2nd) He never comes inside of me but does like on the sheets or whatever. But we did a round two. But he of course didn't finish. I had started my pack, the day before, December 1st, but read that another form of contraceptive was needed the first 7 days. So i went to the store and got Next Choice, two tablet. Took the first one on Saturday the 4th at like 10 am, then the next at like 11 pm. The next morning i threw up at like 10 am. I forgot to eat something with my vitamins. Now, a week later (starting this past saturday) I began spotting heavily. It's pretty much gone now, but what does this mean?

I also wanted to add that if you vomit 2 hours or more after taking emergency contraception (or birth control), there are enough hormones absorbed into your system from the medication that you do not need to worry.

Hi kfir1288,
Thank you for your question and for finding EmpowHER. What you describe is not uncommon--breakthrough bleeding is a known effect of taking emergency contraception. Is this the first time you're taking birth control pills? I think that's what you read meant--for first time users. As long as you are on your birth control pills and taking it regularly, you should be ok no matter what time of the month. The condom was back-up birth control, so failure should not have been such a concern. As long as you're not a first time birth control user, I'm not sure why you felt the need to take emergency contraception also. It's always a good idea to use a backup method like you do (withdrawal, condoms, spermicide), to avoid unwanted pregnancy. If I'm missing something, let me know.
