Hi! I have usually regular periods on the 28th-30th day. Today is day 37th and still haven't got my period. I had 2 HPTs and they turned out negative. (is it still early) I had a few spottings weeks before and today. I am not sure to count our intercourse as one because he entered only twice (really quick) then stopped because we didn't want any ejaculation happening inside. I also have tender breasts now. Is there still hope for me to have my period?

Hi,
You would need to talk with your doctor about your symtpoms, since you had the IUI (intrauterine insemination) procedure, as you could be experiencing a shorter-than-usual cycle for your menstrual periods. (If your last menstrual period began on August 7th, and if today is the beginning of another period, August 24th, this would equate to an 18-day cycle). This shorter cycle can be normal for some women, but please call your doctor and talk with him/her about your symptoms.

Hi,
I'm glad you went to the doctor's office, and it sounds like they just did not think the test was necessary (this is a good thing...no need for unnecessary testing!). It would be good advice to heed what your doctors suggested and take another test in a week (you probably will anyways, regardless if today's test says negative...right?).

Many women are going through what you are...the "wait" is agonizing (I know, first-hand!), and with 2 negative pregnancy tests and the doctor's telling you to wait one more week, (plus, it sounds like everything was "OK" from your medical appointment), that hopefully you can stop worrying and enjoy yourself until your next testing. Can you mark the date on your calendar, and challenge yourself to not think about taking a pregnancy test until that date?

Plus...as Diane asked: are you trying to become pregnant? If you are, then you may have this same worry/concern/stress with each cycle. If you are not, are you using any type of birth control to prevent a pregnancy?

Lastly, what did the doctor think was the reason for your late/irregular cycle? What if your pregnancy test comes back negative...what are your next steps according to your doctor? (Many women miss their period completely, and this can be normal).

Anon,

If you had unprotected sex, yes, you could be pregnant. Your symptoms would support this, but some of those symptoms can also go along with PMS. And if you tested too early with home pregnancy tests, there might not have been enough of the pregnancy hormone in your urine for the tests to pick it up. I'm glad you had a doctor's appointment yesterday; they will do a blood test and be able to tell you for sure.

Please come back and let us know what happens. Are you hoping to conceive?

Menstrual bleeding means you do not have a viable pregnancy. Why are you asking this question in August, when your period occurred 5 months ago?
