Switched from sronyx birth control to Ortho Tri Cyclen and forgot to take pill.

Okay, here goes.

I'm 19 and have been married for a year now. I got on the birth control pill Sronyx in March of '09. I just switched to Ortho Tri Cyclen (for my August cycle) and I am a Sunday starter. On August 4th, I got my period. My husband and I went away that weekend for our anniversary. I was supposed to take the first pill of the Ortho Tri Cyclen on Sunday the 8th but I had forgotten to pack the pills. We didn't get home until Monday night, and I took my pill at my regular time (I have never heard of "doubling-up" on pills.). My husband and I had unprotected sex on the 14th-17th, I also started the antibiotic Cephalexin for an infected ingrown toenail on the 15th and my last day of meds is tomorrow. I accidently forgot to take my pill on the 16th and 17th. Lastnight I had a really sharp pain in my left ovary-area and today I have had alot of really stringy, clear discharge and there is some light pink blood in it. It's not really spotting, just a little bit when I wipe. I also had some cramps for about 20 minutes and then about 15 minutes of nausea after that. I've eaten dinner and now I feel fine, just extremeley tired. I don't know what's going on or what to do. The information with my birth control doesn't say anything about doubling up on pills.

So, could I be pregnant? I'm married and although we are not wanting a baby, we could deal with it if this is what's going on. I would appreciate any and all input! Thank you!

Antibiotics do not effect your birth control pills to the point that they ineffective. Your birth control pills are 99% effective when used consistently and correctly every day. When you miss pills, this percentage decreases. Antibiotics may/may not effect the pills.

I would not say anything was "stupid" on your part...you are finding out answers now, so that's a great thing!

Experts say that you can continue using your birth control pills until you have a confirmed pregnancy. Your chances of pregnancy are still relatively low, since you are using birth control.

I hope this helps...please let us know when your period begins! And, if you plan to have a baby in the future, it is best to stop using hormonal birth control for a cycle or two (so you know when your actual periods begin and end; important information for the doctors to estimate your due date!). Just an FYI..

I know that is says to take one as soon as you remember, but I didn't remember until the regular time to take my next pill, which is 9:30 at night. I asked the doctor when she gave me the new pills if I needed to use a condom and she simply told me I would be fine. Maybe I should switch doctors? Honestly, I've been thinking and if I turn out pregnant, I think I'd be okay with it. Maybe even happy. Only time will tell I guess. But what does the light pink blood mean? This morning I had a little bit of brown stuff with the clear stuff.

You may be experiencing breakthrough bleeding (spotting in-between periods), or your period could be starting. When you miss pills, it can cause some irregularity in your cycle and you can have some spotting. The blood color can be red, pink, brown..or some combination. The white or clear fluid can either be vaginal secretions also called cervical mucus (women have this all throughout their cycle), and it can also be semen from intercourse. All of this mixed together would create more of a pink hue in your spotting.

When are you expecting your next period?

I am surprised that your doctor would not tell you that antibiotics can decrease the effectiveness of your pill, but perhaps it was not significant enough. You may want to call and ask, but that is irrelevant when you miss pills, as that definitely decreases the effectiveness of the pill. Women forget pills on occasion, but the more pills you miss (especially in-a-row), the less effective your pills are in preventing pregnancy. You can take a pregnancy test if you miss your next period, but the blood you are seeing sounds like an upcoming period.

im on that same brand. my pack says if you miss one take it as soon as you remember then take at your normal time even if you take two in one day. antibiotics decrease the effectiveness of birth control. with most birth control your supposed to use a back up method for a month after switching to a new brand. it is possible you could be pregnant. wait till your supposed to have your period. if you dont get it your most likely pregnant and you should take a pregnancy test and or go to the doctor to be sure.
