Q:

Could I have a ruptured cyst or is it just related to my gastrointestinal issues?

Maybe 5 nights ago, I went to go to the bathroom before bed, like normal, and as soon as I sat down on the toilet, I had an intense piercing pain in my lower abdomen that made all feeling of having to pee or anything stop. I'm not really sure how long it lasted but it seemed like forever. Upon standing, it felt as if my stomach was literally inflating and I found it difficult to stand straight up because of the pain. My fiance and I went to bed and I tried to use a heating pad to make the pain go away thinking it was cramps. It did not work, but it did make me warmer. Mind you, I was literally freezing after this happened. My teeth were chattering and my fiance had to get a third blanket on the bed, plus the heating pad already on my lower abdomen. The pain only got better after I worked up enough courage to lie on my stomach. It was quite painful to barely touch my lower abdomen, but I just had a thought that maybe if I put enough pressure on my entire abdomen, the swelling would go down, and it did. It's been a few days and the feeling is almost completely gone. The bloating is completely gone. Every once in a while I'll have a slight twinge there or a dull ache. My bowel movements are pretty regular now and they were really strange for a week before that stabbing pain happened. Mind you, I started drinking cranberry juice thinking I needed to cleanse my system so that might have to do with my bowel movements getting better. I had also taken a 4 mile walk the day of the incident that I knew I was NOT in shape for. I did pee like normal the morning after the incident, but that was it and there was no gas. No naseau either the entire time. This is why I'm not so sure it was because of gastrointestinal issues. I was still slightly sore the next morning. The next day, the pain started to increase again as the day went on, but I went pee during the day and it stopped. I've read up on bowel obstruction and ovarian cysts and quite honestly, my symptoms almost match both, but are more closely related to a cyst. I'm nervous because I really want to try to get pregnant soon and I'm afraid having cysts might screw that up. Any help would be amazing. I know this was really long, but I thank you for any help!

Hi goober,
Thanks for your question and for finding EmpowHER. We are not doctors and cannot diagnose you--it could be one of any number of things, from an infection to some other condition. Especially since you are wanting to get pregnant soon, you should call your doctor and tell them what happened. They more than likely will want to see you to check out what could be going on, and rule out some things. If the pain gets bad again, please seek out urgent care, either from your doctor's office or an after hours facility.
Good luck! Let us know what you find out and how you're doing.
