Crossed legs

Is it healthy to keep your legs crossed? I have a "sitting job" and recently found that I always keep my legs crossed, sometimes double crossed and really like it. But how healthy is it for them?

Hi Anon

Thanks for your post!

Crossing our legs has become the cultural norm, especially for women - and many do find it quite comfortable and natural.

Keeping your legs crossed constantly isn't a good idea. It can affect the veins in your legs and general blood circulation, but doing so occasionally probably won't make a difference. It's a habit most women have that they should probably try to break.

Try putting a note on your workspace to remind yourself or try propping your legs up on a small step stool so that you are still at rest and comfortable. It might take a few weeks to break the habit but it certainly can be done, and don't worry too much if you happen to catch yourself with crossed legs - just don't do it as much as you're doing now.

Thanks for writing!
