Yes, anytime you have unprotected sex, you have an increased chance of pregnancy. There is no "safe" time during your cycle to have sex. Most women do not ovulate until the middle of their cycle, but there is always a chance that you can ovulate early/late.

My husband and I practice NFP (natural family planning) and so I know that there actually are safe times during your cycle to have unprotected sex. As long as you are educated and know what you are doing it is possible.

I wasn't deliberately trying to get pregnant, I have no desire to have a kid anytime soon. My last period started on august 16th and yes I am usually regular but I thought I got my period 2 days ago but it only lasted for like 2 days so I honestly dont really know. It was the flu that had me sick, I am much better now. The last day I had unprotected sex was august 27th but he pulled out everytime.

Thankyou for the help, I plan on calling the doctor about birth control but i have just been confused on what is going on. I also haven't been feeling well the past few days..( dehydrated feeling, nauseous, and the smell of food, ciggarette smoke, and alcohol have really been bothering me.) This could just be the flu coming about so idk...but the time we had sex right after my period was my first time ever having sex so im new to all of this and I guess i should educate myself more.

I am so glad to hear back from you!

Please know that I was not as concerned about the one incident you keep referring to right after your period. That was one time, and the "heat of the moment" can capture anyone. Emergency contraception is made for these moments, and when birth control fails.

What concerned me was the ADDITIONAL unprotected sex that you are counting as "all-in-one", but please know the MORE times you have unprotected sex, the GREATER your chances of pregnancy. You made one "mistake" ("mistake" meaning unprotected sex when you do not want to be pregnant), but then after that...you are making a deliberate choice...I believe FIVE times!!...to have unprotected sex. It does not take educating yourself...you already know that is how pregnancy happens. That is just what concerned me---the additional choices you made after the initial sex-after-period. (Even if it was all in the same day or same week, they all count as different episodes).

I'm sorry you are not feeling well. It could be many things: being worried, effects from the EC, upcoming period, flu, etc.

Can you tell me:
- When was the date of your last menstrual period (the first day of bleeding)
- When are you expecting your next period (are your cycles regular)?
- What was the date of the last time you had unprotected sex?

And...how does your boyfriend feel about wearing a condom?

Let us know if you need any help contacting the doctor, or have any other questions about sex, birth control, etc.

Hi,
Please read the information booklet that was provided with the Next Step; it concerns me that you are taking medication from your boyfriend that you are not aware of. Please take more control of your own health, as EVERY time you have unprotected sex, regardless of the timing in your cycle, you are INCREASING YOUR RISK for pregnancy.

I am sorry if I sound blunt, but I am really concerned when I read that you are having frequent, unprotected sex and do not want to be pregnant, and are allowing your boyfriend to take the reigns and take control of your health (except for using condoms). Good for him for being educated on emergency contraception!!! I'm really glad you are asking us these questions, but please take care of yourself. :)

What you are experiencing now is called "breakthrough bleeding". It is a common side effect of taking emergency contraception.

You will not know if you are pregnant or not until your next expected menstrual period begins. The unfortunate thing about taking EC is that it also has the side effect of causing irregular periods for a cycle or two. If your period does not begin when you expect it to, you can take a home pregnancy test (it will not be effective any earlier). It is really hard to wait until your period begins, especially if it is late due to taking the emergency contraception.

What you can do in the meantime: find a gynecologist (you should be seeing one annually, since you are sexually active), and talk about your birth control options. EC is not a good choice for ongoing birth control, as it is not as effective as the pill or condoms.

If your boyfriend REALLY wants to look out for your health, he would have also picked up a pack of condoms while he was at the pharmacy buying you the EC. He needs to wear a condom each and every time you two have sex to prevent pregnancy. Condoms are up to 98% effective at preventing pregnancy (make sure he knows how to use it correctly!). Hormonal contraception (like the pill) is up to 99% effective at preventing pregnancy.

What you two are doing is called using the "withdrawal method" when you have unprotected sex and he withdraws his penis from your vagina before ejaculating. This is not an effective method of birth control for couples just starting out!

I am happy to talk with you more!

Hello, I'm Sue, I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend in the last of my period (there was a little brown spot on my liners) He didn't ejaculated inside (he pulled out) and the next morning, I found out there was blood on my underwear not a little spot but it stopped. I had sex on Friday night and Saturday morning, so today is Thursday, if I want to prevent a pregnancy, is it too late ? I'm so scared and worried about it, bcs I'm senior student on my last semester. Please answer my question and help me. . Thank you so much.
