Q:

diarrhea that doesn't stop

I've had a loose stool coming out of me like a fire hose the last 7 days (only once a day). I'm lactose intolerant and, it seems, everything, except what I cook in my own kitchen, has this effect over the last 7 months. I've had antibiotics, stool testing, a colonoscopy everything is perfect, and and yet it continues. I'm using probiotics at every meal which helps, but right behind some firm stool comes the other. My anus feels inflamed. I've kept a food diary, eliminated things, and yet....Can you offer some advise? Should I see a nutritionist? Thanks for any information.

Hi Anon,

You say that this has been happening unless you cook out of your own kitchen-- the problem with eating out or having someone else's food is that you can never be 100% sure about what ingredients go into preparing the food.

Another factor that could be making you go to the bathroom are the antibiotics you've been taking-- they can do a real number on your stomach.

Try preparing your own food for one week straight and if the diarrhea stops then you know it's related to the way it's being handled/prepared. Seeing a nutritionist is a great idea as well.

Best,

Rosa
