Did my period come early?

I normally chart my periods with the Fertility Friend app on my phone (not TTC, I have a Paragard IUD). It has been pretty accurate up until this point. I started having more severe than normal cramps the day before yesterday, 4 days before my period "should" have started. I started having heavy bleeding yesterday, even for a normal period I usually spot first. Today I am still having heavier than normal bleeding, bleeding through a tampon in less than 2 hours, (normal is changing my tampon every 4 hours and its not quite full) and cramping, take my breath away cramping. I've had my IUD for a year now, so its not anything new from that. I've also been more tired, edgy and downright cranky the passed week or so... I don't think I'm pregnant, or at least I hope I'm not... So what else could it be?

It's very possible that your period is early, however, your comment that you are having heavy bleeding and "take my breath away cramping" is concerning, as is your feeling tired. I suggest contacting your gynecologist, especially if the situation is worsening with time, to be sure that there's not a medical issue that's affecting you and endangering you. Let us know what you learn and how you are doing. We hope this is a minor matter, but it's best to find out for sure.
