Q:

Does saliva kill sperm?

When I perform oral sex on my boyfriend, I let him finish in my mouth. Does the sperm die there? I'm concerned because we've started doing this thing where I lick his fingers before he fingers me, to kill off any sperm that his hand may have come in contact with. Now I'm scared that some sperm that was in my mouth may have actually transferred to his fingers while I licked them. Is that possible? Is there a pregnancy concern here?

As an additional note I also just got off my period yesterday, so I'm probably not fertile right?

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Thank you for such an interesting question.

There is no risk for pregnancy with oral sex. The semen passes through your digestive tract, starting in the mouth, passing through the stomach where it and all that you consume encounters gastric acid, on to the intestines and eliminated.

You are fertile five days before and on the day of ovulation. By the time your period starts, ovulation has already occurred.

Does this answer your questions?

Regards,
Maryann
