Hi, I really need someones advice on something really important which is my mother has lots of stress and anxiety and I found out she was talking to a social worker. I have the social workers contact information and my mother doesn't know about it. My father has problems and I know my mother's stress is mostly because of him. My mother changed the past three months in a way to do positive things which is good of course but their is one main thing she is doing that is causing her more problem for herself and others. We are Jewish and Friday's at sundown until Saturday evening is Sabbath and what she is doing is that she doesn't want to use car at all to go synagogue and she walks all the way there which is more than 1 hour walking. My mother doesnt have the energy to do that and when she gets bored at home during Sabbath she mumbles around a lot. She gets on my nerves like this to.

What she is doing is wrong in bothering herself like this and others. What ever I say it doesn't help. I want to know for such behavior and the kind of problems my father has does it make sense that I speak to a psychologist? I always feel in between in matters like this and I don't know what to do. Recently I feel sick in my stomach from the way they are. I have to do something sooner especially before my mother goes to far in being to much during Sabbath. I'm afraid God forbid something happen. This past week I couldn't do much because of the holiday Passover. Tuesday the holiday ends and Wednesday things go back to normal. I keep thinking I should go to a psychologist right away, I want to know does it really make sense that I go? I feel so weird just by thinking of going I don't want them to think weird of me. Please let me know in what you think about this.

Thank You So Much,

Thanks for your reply. What ever I talk to her about she just walks away and doesn't want to listen to me. Most of my talking comes out right but by the way she is there is no way that anything can help. She is posing risk to herself and that's because she doesn't have energy to do so much walking, she is 57 years old, she is very stressed out and has anxiety and recently she even gets fast heartbeats. She does have some health problems to. The help of a professional just makes her happy but not 100% because the source of the problem is my father and I can see that my mother can't tolerate it.
She's not going in a positive direction though she is putting more stress to herself. In general nobody listens to me only in the end when they see I'm right that's when they like to say that I'm right.
I still can't figure out what to do though. I'm try to do something sooner and the sooner the better. What do you think I should do?

The purpose of a social worker is to make living easier for people and families that need the help. So, if your mom has been talking to a social worker she's taking the right steps.

As far as her needing a psychologist, this is something that you need to address with her first. You cannot have her committed just because she takes an hour long walk and mumbles at home when she gets bored-- she isn't posing a risk to herself or others but I can see how it can be concerning if this is new and erratic behavior.

Talk to her about possibly soliciting the help of a professional and see where it goes from there.

Good luck,
