Q:

Does washing with soap and water kill sperm on hands?

My boyfriend and I engaged in manual sex. If before fingering me he had semen on his hands, I wanted to know if him washing his hands with soap and water is enough to get rid of the sperm so it can't get my pregnant. I'm not on birth control and we didn't use protection. As a precaution before manual sex aka fingering, are soap and water enough to make sure that my boyfriend has no sperm on his hands? I also gave him a handjob and he ejaculated with wet fresh semen on my hands but I went to the bathroom and washed it off with luke warm water and antibacterial soap and then dried after. After drying I urinated and washed my vagina with antibacterial soap touching it with the same hand, in order to prevent a UTI. I'm sorry I'm just really worried that I may not be pregnant so I'm freaking myself out. This event happened March 15th (11 days after my period had started) so its been over 2 weeks since then, if I take a pregnancy test will it be accurate? I don't expect my period till April 3rd

Hello Anonymous,

If you are not ready to become pregnant but are sexually active, please start using birth control. Engaging in this time of behavior is like playing with matches. Sooner or later, you are going to get burned (pregnant).

Having unprotected intercourse will lead to pregnancy.

Me and my boyfriend were messing around and I was giving him a handjob. He cummed and then washed his hands really well with lots of soap and water. About 5-10 minutes later he fingered me and went inside me. Could he have gotten me pregnant?

Hello Anonymous,

No, because he washed his hands well with soap and water before he touched you.

Me and my girlfriend had sex 3 times in a day. The first time we used a condom (we only had one). We did it a second time and research shows that in order to get rid of the leftover sperm, you must urinate in order to flush it out of the system. Well I did not urinste before the second time and we did not use a condom. I did not ejaculate inside of her but I am worried and haven't been able to sleep.

Hello Anonymous,

Well, all you can do now is wait for your girlfriend's period to start. If it is late by at least seven days, and she is regular, time to test.

Maryann,
Thank you for your response. I have been extremely stressed lately and showed PMS signs the day my period was supposed to happen but I had a terrible day and was extremely stressed. I have been stressed since then since school is starting and because of this. Could that cause anything? My periods are usually regular with date but I am only sixteen and have had my period for only two years. My period can also be irregular within the cycle. I've been about 7-11 days late before and then I received my period. May this be something I need checked out?

Hi Anonymous,

During prolonged periods of stress, the body produces more of the hormone, cortisol. The high levels trigger the body to shut down non-essential function, such as the menstrual cycle.

You may want to consider scheduling an appointment with a gynecologist to find the reason for your irregular menstrual cycle.

My boyfriend and I were fooling around a little the day of my period (it came later that night) and then about a month or so later, a day or two before my period. He came in a cup and both of us washed our hands (him probably better than me) and maybe he touched my vagina again 5 minutes later? I'm now about 8 days late on my period and am stressed which I know delays periods. I was curious what someone else's opinion was. This was also what happened the time before. Thanks you

Hello Anonymous,

Since your period is now eight days late, take an early response pregnancy test. Test in the morning. Use the first urine when you wake up and use the bathroom.
