Donating Hair: Locks of Love vs. Pantene Pro-V Beautiful Lengths

For so long I have been frustrated with the inability to grow my hair out. About 6 months ago I came across Pantene Pro-V's new product, Beautiful Lengths lengthening shampoo and conditioner. I figured it probably would not work but I have liked their products in the past so I bought it anyway. About 4 months after using the shampoo and conditioner my hair began to grow like a weed! Now, 6 months later my hair is 2 feet and some odd inches long.

I would love to donate my hair soon, but I am having trouble deciding between the Locks of Love and Pantene's Beautiful Length's program. I was wondering if anyone can give me some insight or advice on which to choose and why.

I had cancer and was very blessed to keep my hair! I donated 8 inches to Pantene to celebrate my 1 year cancer free! It was a shocker, but it was worth it! If you can give to anyone in need, its a huge blessing to others that don't have hair! My 10 year old is donating her 12 inches today....being a cancer patient. I know how important hair is!

I'll never donate to locks of love. They denied a wig to our friend's dying daughter because they felt her prognosis was too dim and she would not get enough use from it. If she had it for 3 days it would have been worth it to that sweet little girl! She lived almost another year.

FYI, a bunch of people from her supporters had donated too. Locks of Love stinks!

Has anyone donated to Wigs for Kids? How does that compare to LoL and BL?

I've done 4 or 5 12-13 inch donations to LoL and gotten postcards saying thank you for all the ones I included the information sheet with. I don't have a problem with them charging on a sliding scale for the wigs or for them selling unusable hair. What I do have a problem with is them "missing" $6 million in hair donations. I don't particularly care what happens to my donation (wig, sold, used as sponge for oil cleanup) but I do care that it is accounted for in some way.

Hi, I have been growing my hair for the last few years. I am 55 and I have 13" of grey, white, blonde, brunette and red all in my natural hair ...never colored.
My hair has never been past the middle of my back and I have Always Wanted it to grow so I could Donate to LOL. I excitedly just went to their website. Was excited to see that my hair was long enough to donate, then my heart dropped when they said NO GREY :( I wasn't aware they only made wigs for children.
So glad I found this thread because now I CAN DONATE TO BL! Yippee!
BOTH ...OR ALL SOUND AMAZING.
Since winter is here in NC I think I may just try this shampoo thru the winter, grow my hair more and get it as healthy as possible and then say, HASTA LUEGO to it in early Spring 2015!
I say we all give credit where credit is due, and LOL was the first group to initiate such a Great Cause. Also, I don't care what the reason for hairloss is, whether it be Cancer or Alopechia because the loss of hair to any woman or child is detrimental.
BL will get my first donation.

I think the Pantene program takes hair that is 5% or less grey only. I think that they can't take a lot of grey hair because it takes three donations to make one wig and they die each donation to make them all an even colour. If the donations are grey, they have difficulty getting a uniform colour when dying them because each grey hair donation doesn't take to die the same as each other. That's what I read.

LOL does accept grey hair; I just checked their site. But Pantene's program sounds better suited to your needs.

Locks of Love accepts gray hair but sells it to other companies. http://www.locksoflove.org/donate.html

I donate to Pantene Beautiful Lengths program because they do not charge for their wigs. I found out Locks of Love charges these people that are very sick, to get a wig. I'm about to donate my 2nd time to Pantene's program to honor my friend that just had a double mastectomy.
