Had breast reduction in 2003, past few months have started to experience annoying tingling pain in left breast, right in the nipple area in a circular motion, sometimes the pain is dull, sometimes sharp. Right now as I type this, its sharp, tingling in the nipple. Othertimes, I feel a swelling along stitch line from surgery

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for reaching out to us with your concern about pain and tingling in your left breast.

Various cosmetic procedures like breast reduction, breast augmentation and other reconstructive surgeries can lead to mild nerve damage as part of the procedure, In most cases, it is temporary.

However, depending upon the degree of nerve damage, the symptoms may be permanent. Sometimes, the post-surgical inflammatory process can also lead to tingling sensation that may extend up to arm-pits, anterior chest wall or towards the shoulder region.

Anonymous, I am concerned that this sensation developed only recently, and that you are noticing swelling at the incision site now.

Are you due for a mammogram? When was the last time you had a breast exam by your physician?

Please contact your physician to have these symptoms evaluated.

Regards,
Maryann
