Hearing the kids are reaching puberty early due to their diet. How much of that is hormones in milk or even meat?

Hi Ali

Thanks for this post.

Girls are indeed reaching puberty earlier (much earlier than say, 30 years ago, which is a nano second when you consider how slowly we change, genetically.). So something has to be going on, right?

Hormones in our foods definitely have an impact on girls and sexual maturation. Several studies have shown this - you can read this abstract on a British study done in 2010:

We need to stop allowing our kids to consume these hormone laden foods by choosing hormone-free foods that are carefully labelled in stores.

Another reason for early puberty is obesity - extra fat can mimic estrogen. Have you noticed that over-weight girls often have breasts early? Overweight boys can develop breast tissue too and over-weight girls menstruate earlier than girls of health weights.

Fresh, unprocessed, hormone- free , as well as sensible portions can really help to decrease this disturbing trend.
