I am worried that the magnetic field the microwave generates might make eating microwaved foods unsafe.

Guide

Hello Lindsay,

It is safe to eat food that has been cooked or heated in a microwave.

The microwave oven uses microwaves, a type of wave located between radio waves and infrared radiation on the electromagnetic spectrum. Microwaves are absorbed by water molecules. As these water molecules are agitated, they begin to vibrate at the atomic level and generate heat. This heat cooks food. It does not render the food radioactive.

Regards,
Maryann
