I do pilates once a week and walk about 3-4 miles 3-5 times a week. are any of these bad to do while ttc? are there any exercises that could impair your ability to get pregnant?

Thank you Pat for your response. When I was pregnant with my other two I did have some spotting first 12 wks of pregnancy but I had always lived normally til I found out I was pregnant. I guess I am just nervous that maybe I am doing something that could be preventing me from getting pregnant.

Thanks again,

Shamy

Shamy,
HI! I just wanted to add that there are many differences between TTC and actually being pregnant (as you well know!), and exercise while you are TTC is great! Yoga, pilates, walking...or any exercise you have been doing previously actually is beneficial to your body!

However, since you said that you experienced spotting during your previous pregnancies, you would want to talk with your doctor about what types of exercises are appropriate while you are actually pregnant (none of these exercises would prevent you from conceiving). Depending on the reason for your spotting during pregnancy, your doctor may suggest limiting exercises that are high-intensity or high-impact, which pilates and walking are neither!

Good luck TTC!

Hi shamy - I'm going to assume that ttc stands for trying to conceive. If you mean something else please let us know.

Generally speaking, it's fine and safe to continue your exercise routine if you're fit and regularly exercise. There are actually several benefits to exercising while trying to conceive because the physical activity can help in relieving stress and will also help after pregnancy in dealing with weight gain.

Of course, if you have a history of miscarriage, or any health conditions that could impact your pregnancy, you should discuss this with your doctor.

Have fun at pilates and during your walks, and we hope you will be back later sharing news of your pregnancy!
