Even my arms/shoulders in some of the poses are not in alignement...Is this just the way I am? Will I ever be able to do a split or do a perfect standing bow pose? Even my pretzel move - compact eagle pose -is awkward looking?
I am 50, always been athletic (weights, biking, tennis- not gymnastics or dance) and have been recently diagnosed with "almost" osteoporosis...taking calcium and Vitamin D

Hi Anonymous,

Thank you for your question and welcome to Empowher. Every person is different when it comes to flexibility. There are some major muscles that are harder than others to stretch out. Here is a good article to read http://saveyourself.ca/articles/unstretchables.php.

This article may also be helpful which explains the physiology of muscle stretching http://web.mit.edu/tkd/stretch/stretching_2.html.

Let us know if this is helpful.
