Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for reaching out to us on behalf of your friend.

An emergency contraceptive pill prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation. If your friend took the pill two days before her period was due to start, it was too late to prevent ovulation or for the pill to work.

If she had unprotected sex two days before her period was due to start, there was no risk of becoming pregnant and no need to take the pill, because ovulation had already happened about two weeks before.

I do not know why she had only a little bit of bleeding the next day, and then it stopped.

If she does not have any bleeding within three weeks of taking the pill, she needs to test for pregnancy and call her gynecologist.

Regards,
Maryann
