Hair Stopped Growing

Hi, the hair on the right side of my head has stopped growing it has been over a year, I have seen a dermatologist and he said my scalp and hair were clean, no skin problems. I got pregnant when I was 40, had a great pregnancy back into my clothes in 5 weeks! After I stopped breastfeeding it seems all my problems started, gained 80 lbs, my blood pressure and cholesteral all started rising after tests the doctors said I had PCOS put me on Metformin, the weight gain stopped but I have been unable to lose any. I keep myself on a very strict diet so my cholesteral and BP have dropped to a high normal but I don't know what to do about my hair, it is visibly shorter and thinner on the right side. I waited about 9 months to cut it and it was 2 inches longer on my left side, from the front right to the back. Any help would be great!

I'd love to know if anyone has found any answers about this. I have a friend who's 4-year-old daughter has the same issue. The hair stops growing at a certain length, only on one side. She has noticed it since her hair has ever grown long. So this issue probably started at birth. Very mysterious.

Has anyone figured out what this could be? Please tell. I'm in my 20s and this same thing has happened to me over the last two years. I'm afraid to cut my hair and hair it never grow back.

I have been to hair specialist and he has taken biopsies on both sides of my head, the right side had 8 hairs and the left had 25 hairs. He said the biopsies came back negative for any diseases. He said I guess try Rogaine, he said your hair will fall out first and then hopefully grow back. So after 2 years of waiting to see this guy I have no answers and my hair isn't growing.

Ive been complaining to my hair stylist for years. truth is that the hair on the right side of my head doesn't seem to keep up with the left side. It's so mysterious because the roots seem the same and I am nourishing the ends so cant blame dryness & broken ends. I use protein on my hair often and the rest is growing great. I don't think I'm losing at this point but I just don't see any growth. My stylist thinks I'm nuts as she is convinced that all grows equally even tho she sees my hair on a regular basis. Frustrating!!! What gives?

Hi KimJack - Have your doctors considered alopecia areata, a hair-loss condition which usually affects the scalp. Hair loss tends to be rather rapid and often involves one side of the head more than the other. Here's more information: http://www.medicinenet.com/alopecia_areata/article.htm

Hi again Kim,
I cannot seem to find something specific to your quesetion. Can you keep us updated on your test results? Maybe that may paint a better picture so we can help you.
Thanks,
Missie

Hi KimJack,
Have you had blood tests conducted, in order to rule out any other medical conditions or deficiencies in your diet?

I am researching this topic for you, and the information is scarce regarding insufficient hair growth, since you are already working with a Dermatologist.

Hi Alison,

I had a thyroid and ferritin blood test last week, I have not heard the results yet. Everyone seems to think there is no deficiencies because only the right side of my head is affected.

I was hoping that someone has or has heard about this, my eyebrows are fine.
