Has anyone had severe low back pain after seasonal flu shot?

I took a mandatory flu shot at work Oct. 19, 2009 on my left arm. I had chills and a fever of 102* along with left arm aching pain, and a bout of severe low back pain within the first 2 weeks after receiving the shot. All other symptoms have since dissipated except for the severe low back pain and a strange wobbliness in my legs. The low back pain is bad enough to where I could not move by myself for a week, and now cannot really sit or bend without a high degree of constant pain.

I received the flu shot yesterday in Austin, TX and experienced typical side effects like headache and fever the next morning, lasting all day so far. About 27 hours after receiving the shot, stabbing lower back pain has started - very difficult to move without pain. The shot I received was Afluria-Seqirus.

I had a flu shot a week ago, have been in severe lower back pain for three days. I normally do get the flu shot and never had this issue before. My lower back is killing me. Healthy otherwise.

1)Next day the pain in lower back was undeniable. I sensed it was connected somehow. So glad other came forward to testify about their experience too. I'm very active and healthy and enjoy my freedom.
2) Consider perhaps kidneys could be going through over kill. I say this because I did regular back exercises at gym and had no pain or pinching or anything. I did more walking which is good for back. Felt bad this whole 3 weeks and discomfort in my back near a pinching sensation but not.
3) I got the shot while sick with a cough lung cold, (never get a shot when sick even when the nurse assures you its ok), the cold came back so bad in my lungs and chest are so worse off for it.. . I'm doing ginger and turmeric and goldenseal and grapefruit juice from my tree. Cold is worst I have ever had, having come back with vengeance, I have chills, no fever, but definably worse off.
4) Back pain after about 3 weeks went away today tremendously after I have been drinking Hibiscus tea (jamica) refrigerated, and mixed in Royal Camu Camu berry by Whole World botanicals.which is good for kidney health, and been doing that for 2 days and woke up this morning and my back is at 85% better. Could it be kidney overload?

I second the hibiscus tea. I drank some last night and this morning and feel normal today.

My husband had a flu shot December 2015. The next day had severe back pain, weak legs (had to have help getting up for 24 hours) and felt something was "not right" with his thinking. Went to our Dr. and he prescribed prednisone, and pain med. Was a life saver. Was completely pain free in 6 days.

I had severe back pain after my flu shot in November 2015. It felt like my spine was being ripped out from my body. I was in bed for 3 days afterwards. I have let the CDC know because there is something wrong with this. I have had my flu shot for years and have never had this problem. My boss said that a couple of her friends had severe back pain as well after. Please contact the CDC if you have had this happen to you. Maybe we can save others from having to go thru this. This was worse than having the flu, I wish I didn't get the shot. :-(

I got the flu shot in Nov 15 too, and started having severe back pain 3 weeks later, still in serious pain any time I sit or lay down.

I had a flu shot 10/28/2015. It was the first time I had one after I gave up all antihistamines. That may be a red herring, there is little information about that. I gave up antihistamines because of the research showing they can contribute to obesity. I am obese, 43 years old, and relatively healthy for my age. This week I suffered fevers which I expected, total brain fog (I can hardly write this without misspelling almost every word and then having to fix it), and back pain so severe that I can't sit down or stand up without gasping in pain. My husband said to me, "well don't drop into the chair it probably makes it worse" and my reply "my legs are weak, it wasn't intentional, I lost control of my legs." I am very active despite being obese, I do powerlifting to keep my back in good working order. Before doing squats and deadlifts, I was having nearly constant pain. My muscles are not weak normally, in fact I'm very strong and am thinking of making or buying a kettlebell to add to my routine. This has stopped all efforts at exercise that require the legs. I can still do push ups, but that's all. Several doctors have mentioned meningitis to me, and based on what I read on pubmed and other websites, I wouldn't be surprised if that was a factor. But I will also research the kidney stress possibility, and increase my water intake. Thank you for the tip!

Hi I too have suffered this but I have been on antihistamines since nine and Doctors will not entertain the idea they make you fat. Where did you get your info and can you be weened off?

I am a perfect healthy person, very fit, active, exercise almost every day. This was the first time I had taken flu shot, everything seemed normal the day i took the shot (took on left arm). But i started to experience severe lower back pain next morning... it followed the other day and became more worse. So, I did a random search and wollah!! found this is a common symptom of flu shot. With me, 5 of my other friends also took shot and four of them are normal but one more is complaining about back pain. As per comments i can see the back pain persisted from weeks to several months. This is the third day...i did some flex exercise for my back and now i am in little better condition. Hope this goes away soon.
