Have you heard of the homeopathic drug Livial?

My friend Debbie, emailed me today and asked the above question. Has anyone heard about this alternative treatment? If so, does it work?
I'll do my own research and let everyone know what I find out.

Be well,

Michelle

This is not homeopathic or naturopathic, it is a manufactured synthetic drug? No, did a search, it is a synthetic.

NO HRT for me.

I am not willing to choose between an organ. Rather I like the use of herbals and true homeopathic.

By the way homeopathic medicines are made from plants. Homeopathy is like treats like, and has no contraindications or side effects. The safest products in the world.

Thank you for this.

I have returned to livial after being off it for two years,i was very sceptical, but sick of the hot flushes since i came off it, i had no problems whilst on it, so i'm hoping i feel normal soon, what with word finding difficulties, no sex life, think any side effects can't be as bad, anyway even paracetamol has loads of side effects if you read everything on the leaflet, if it makes you feel good use it.

My Dr has just prescribed me to take Livial. I had my uterus and ovaries removed 5 years back. I took Premarin for 4 years continuously and faced no problem. I was told by a doc to discontinue it as it has bad side effects. For 7 months I was without any estrogen tablets and i faced many problems as hot flashes, frequent urination, weakness in the knee, vaginal dryness and even vaginal ache. I have just started taking premarin again and I feel better But as Livial has no side effects as a doc says, and I have just began taking it instead of premarin.....I am a working woman, a college teacher and I want to keep fit at least till my retirement at 60...I hope there is no harm in continuing to take this for another 5 years. I would like to get suggestion from a doc or someone experienced.

I have been on Livial for a number of years and it great. Because I had been on it 10 years I decided to give my body a break and tried natural progesterone and put on 4 kilos in 4 months. I am so cheesed off about this I have now come off the progesterone and have been on nothing for 3 months but the hot flushes and insomnia are back so quess what I am going back on the Livial for as long as possible. It is very good for bones anyway. Ali D

I'm writing to ask a question or 2 to those of you who have taken Livial for a while (years perhaps) and then went off it for whatever reason (like myself regrettably!) and then started up again. I wonder if your doctor did any test to check that it would be ok after stopping it to restart again? I'm thinking of taking Livial again because since I stopped about 3 months ago I've had very bad joint pain that I've read about in this post... I had a doctor a while back say that once I stopped taking it I couldn't start again. Has anyone had that sort of advise?? And perhaps stopping for 2 - 3 months isn't that long??? Any advice is welcome!~

Thank you to the two anons above for your comments. To the first anon from Sept 29 I hope the comments have been helpful. It appears that individual reactions to Livial can be quite varied. You may also find the following article helpful:

In January of this year,I attained an year since my last menstruel period.i started experirncing severe hot flushes in September 2009, which caused me great embarresment at work,as out of nowhere, while in important meetings with clients i would break into an uncontrollable sweat, causing me most anxious moments.Ioften carried a second set of clothing to work and a face flannel to wipe out the sweat, as tissue did not seem to work.i would arrive home, head straight to the shower and open all windows, even in the coldest season. My mood swings were so severe, that i started seeing shocked looks from my children and spouse.I eventually went to see the doctor , who prescribed livial 2.5mg.The transformation has been...AMAZING, I AM ENJOYING LIFE,concentrating and performing better at work and have not experienced a hot flush since.I have read about the side effects, but given what i have been through, i cannnot imagine life without Livial. I am 48

I was put on Livial 2 years ago for hot flashes. I took it for a week and felt so Awful! Felt like I had the worst flu ever - could barely get out of bed & whole body ached. As I felt worse & worse all that week and knew I hadn't been around anyone with the flu, I realized the only thing different was taking the drug. I believe the drug was the tipping point that caused adrenal insufficiency which I'm still trying to recover from. Now on bioidentical hormones (estrogene & progesterone) which control hot flashes very well.

Hi, It has been interesting reading all the comments made by Livial users! I had menopausal symtoms which included hot flushes, depression, insomnia, and general confusion and lack of concentration which I found troublesome in a busy and demanding job. I have started taking Livial 1 month ago and still feel very tired, but am concerned over dizziness and lack of concentration and I do such silly mistakes at work which is worrying! I was always very sharp and focused, but now have to make a concentrated effort to ensure my work is as it should be. This seems to have got a little worse on starting Livial. Does this improve with time or should I be trying something else? Please comment, I would appreciate others views.

I had always been very sensitive to hormones whether it was the pill (couldn't take) and conventional HRT gave me depression. Then I was given Livial - and it was great. after four years however I developed breast cancer and my GP immediately withdrew it - which fitted in to my instincts too.
I am OK now having had lumpectomy and radiation in dec 2006. So while I can empathise with those who are cockahoop on discovering - I was too - I wouldn't dream of going back on it. Unfortunately I am not on tamoxifen- which is supposed to be linked chemically with tibolone (livial) it brought on a massive debilitating depression. Something I must say Livial didn't do..... The only other hormone that didn't give me depression was oestrogen only HRT but that is too dangerous. I have no conclusions. My breast cancer was estrogen dependent.
