I recently had sex with a new beau for the first time. He is very well endowed. I could feel the hemorrhoid begin to protrude before we finished having sex. I have a history of hemorrhoids , but had never had one brought on by sex. Is there anything I can do so that this doesn't happen again or is my budding romance doomed ? Please help?

Hello and thank you for your question.
Intercourse can inflame hemorrhoids, but not how you might think. When you become aroused, the genital and anal area becomes engorged with blood flow. This increased pressure can cause hemorrhoids to flare up.
Some suggest making sure to treat hemorrhoids, and avoid sex when experiencing flare ups to avoid excess pressure in the area. Things you can do at home include:
- Use topical treatments
- Soak regularly in a warm bath or sitz bath
- Keep the area clean
- Don't use dry toilet paper
- Apply cold
- Take oral pain relievers
If you experience of marked amount of bleeding, or excess pain, and don't improve with home remedies, talk with a doctor about seeking treatment.
