Hi Anon,

Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community.

A little bit of bleeding between menstrual periods or occasional spotting is fairly normal. Spotting between periods is called breakthrough bleeding. Spotting can be a sign of ovulation. A women regularly spot at the time of ovulation due to a temporary drop in estrogen at the time the ovary releases an egg. Something like this would happen about 10-14 days after your normal menstrual cycle, so based on the details you provided that works out about right.

Also, spotting could be a sign of pregnancy. You could take a home pregnancy test to rule that out. Perimenopause age is typically 35 - 55 so I think you are safe there.

So I wouldn't automatically think it is a problem. I would keep track of symptoms and share with your doctor on your regular check up.

Be well,
~Gillette
