Hi!
Way to be safe!!!
It sounds to me like you have a UTI, and they best way to not get these is prevention!!! Keep these hints in mind to keep it from happening next time.
Urinate before and after sex (especially after) This will clean out the urethra (the tube you pee out of) During sex germs can get pushed up there. You can also was yourself afterward.
Have your partner was their hands to decrease the amount of germs that get down there.
If you start to get UTI's a lot you can take cranberry pills to help.
To get the current infection and if you get another fixed you need to see your provider for antibiotics.
Good luck!

Hey, Gen. First of all, you're to be commended for having safe sex. You're right, that should rule out quite a few possibilities.

Now that you've been able to describe your discomfort better, I'm wondering if you're dealing with Interstitial Cystitis, also called Painful Bladder Syndrome. Individuals have different symptoms but they all result in some sort of bladder discomfort and pain. Doctors diagnose IC/PBS after they've ruled out such things as urinary tract infections. There are some oral medications that help many patients. Here's an explainer page on interstitial cystitis, its symptoms and treatment:

It still seems that a urinary tract infection is quite possible. Here's a Journal of American Medicine patient article on UTIs. The symptom list includes a frequent urge to urinate, a pain or burning sensation, and a greenish-yellow or white discharge or itching in the vaginal area:

Since you had not had sex before and have not had these symptoms before, it seems reasonable to link them. But keep in mind that it could also just be coincidence. Here's another good page on UTIs, with more detailed symptoms listed. It explains how UTIs are caused by bacteria entering the urethra and bladder, which causes the inflammation and infection:

If you go to a doctor, they can diagnose this through urinalysis, which just takes a day. If you have an infection, antibiotics will start clearing it up within 36-48 hours, and get you some relief.

Gen17, you didn't finish your post, but from the topic words you chose it sounds like you're dealing with a burning sensation when you urinate.

There are a lot of possible causes of painful urination. It could be vaginitis, which could include any sort of infection or inflammation of the vagina (such as a yeast infection, for instance). Treatment might include a prescription cream or an antibiotic.

Here's a good source on vaginitis:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/vaginitis/DS00255

It could be a urinary tract infection, which is very common in women. Depending on the cause, these are usually treated with antibacterial drugs.

Here's some more information about urinary tract infections:

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/MEDLINEPLUS/ency/article/000521.htm

It could be a sexually transmitted disease, which means an infection that was transferred between partners during sexual contact. You didn't say whether you had safe sex; use of a condom is commonly thought to prevent STD transmission. Treatment for STDs varies depending on what kind it is.

Here is some more information on STDs:

http://www.cdc.gov/STD/

Don't fret too much. Lots of women deal with such things every day. It's a good idea to make an appointment with a doctor (or to go to a minor emergency clinic if you are hesitant to go to your family doctor) to get a diagnosis and some medicine if you need it. It could clear up in just a few days with proper treatment.

(reply to Diane Porter)

oh i'm sorry. and yes we did have safe sex with a condom and he's been tested for an std so i can hopefully eliminate that possibility. and the burning sensation isn't necessarily when i pee, but more so after the fact there's a tiny pain. mostly the symptoms are just the fact that whenever i'm walking or moving it feels like there's constant pressure on my bladder, making me feel like i have to urinate when i know i shouldn't have to.
