Q:

How can I find joy in my life? I am not interested in anything and want to stay away from everyone and everything.

I'm tired of being a victim of tragedies...

- No dad or father figure
- mother sick from cancer
- no other family around
- home invasion/held at gun point over 1 hr
- sexual abuse
- house arsoned/watched it burn
- no emotional support
- cared for mother after serious auto accident
- break up from 1 1/2 year relationship
- heavy drinking and promiscuous
ALL BEFORE 18 YEARS OLD
- SERIOUSLY abusive marriage for 18 years

- lost house/bankrupt 2X
- divorce
- back surgery

I have always been obese and more facial hair than any woman should have! These two things now keep me prisoner because I don't want to be seen by anyone. I even find it difficult to go shopping or pay for gas (thank goodness for debit cards). My financial situation is terrible so I am unable to get medical help to address my health concerns. So, I sit in my room, with my dogs, and have no desire to get out if it.

Hello Anon

Thank you for writing.

About your weight and facial hair - you may have polycystic ovaries (PCOS) you can cut and paste our PCOS page here: https://www.empowher.com/condition/polycystic-ovarian-syndrome/definition

PCOS can also lead to depression.

You've had an obviously troubled past. Sexual abuse can lead to substance abuse and promiscuity. A home invasion and a home deliberately burned down, as well an ill mother and absent father all come together to form poor relationships later on and a divorce can lead to financial hardship. This is a domino effect of not getting help and support as a child and becoming less able to self-care as an adult.

It's little wonder you feel how you do.
Anon, you can't be a victim anymore, as I can tell you already know. Apply for Medicaid and get yourself into a doctor for a full health check up. Seek therapy for your mental health and ask to learn the tools you need to restart your life. You can actually do that, as hard as those first few steps will be. You owe yourself a fresh start - you deserve it. I do believe you have a desire to get out of this horrible state - if not, you wouldn't be looking for someone to talk you. You have taken the first step but now you need to do a little bit more and take it step by step, day by day.
Will you keep in touch with us and let us know how you are doing?
Best,
Susan
