Influenza is highly contagious. You are correct, this is the time of year when seasonal flu affects so many people. The virus is spread mainly by droplets made when the infected person cough, sneeze or talk.
The best way to protect yourself is to get the annual seasonal influenza vaccine. Always cover the cough with your elbow, wash your hands often and cover your nose with a tissue when you sneeze.
According to the CDC: "You may be able to pass on the flu to someone else before you know you are sick, as well as while you are sick. Most healthy adults may be able to infect others beginning 1 day before symptoms develop and up to 5 to 7 days after becoming sick."
Keep well,
Maryann
