Q:

How to guarantee you won't get pregnant after sex

So me and my boyfriend want to ensure we do not get pregnant when we have sex at the weekend. I went to the clinic and got the noriday proestrogen only pill. I had to get this one as the combined pill was not suitable for me. I don't think the proestrogen only pill stops ovulation, only thickens the mucus:(. Anyway if I'm on the proestrogen only pill, use a condom AND pull out, also using the rhythm method to ensure I'm not ovulating, what are the chances of getting pregnant, from doing all this? Thanks!

Hi Anon,

Thank you for your question.

Noriday is a birth control pill, however the effectiveness of the "progestogen-only" pill is lower than that of other birth control pills. Using a condom for back up protection will ensure that you don't get pregnant.

Good job on thinking preventatively ahead of time.

Be well,

Thank you for this. Do you Know why the proestrogen only pill is less effective? Is it because it doesn't stop ovulation? Or because there is only a 3 hour time window?
