Thank you for your question.

The answer is that is depends completely what STD you may have been infected with - and also the state of your own healh. Some can manifest symptoms within days, others can take months or never show symptoms at all. Even HIV can take up to six months to be detected in the blood and people can have HPV or genital herpes for years without knowing it - thus passing on these infections or running the risk of infertility (especially with an infection like chlamydia).

If you think that you have been infected, consult your doctor or clinic and ask for a comprehensive test. If you think the infection may be something like HIV - you will need to do some longer term testing and one thing you must do, regardless of whether you have been infected with an STD/STI or not, is use protection.

Have you recently had sex and feel you may have been infected?
