How long before I can put weight on a fractured pelvis?

I was walking my 130 lb. German Shepherd when he took off after a dog and threw me to the concrete. Result I have three broken ribs pulled groin and a fractured pelvis. This happened around 15 July. My growing is healed and my ribs are getting better. My question is how long before I can put weight on the fractured pelvis. It is still bothering me a lot and very painful. Fracture is right at the bottom of my butt and it hurts down my leg when I try to walk. My doctor tells me it will heal itself in about nine weeks from the date of the injury. I was in a wheelchair but now I'm trying to use a walker. I just don't want to cause additional problems if I'm not supposed to put weight on it. Can't get a straight answer out of my doctor other then it will heal itself after nine weeks from the injury.

Hello Anon

Thank you for writing and I'm sorry you had these injuries, they sound very painful. And I hope you gave your dog a good talking to!

The doctor cannot give you a solid date as to when you can bear weight. It depends on the fracture and your overall health. Are you getting physical therapy? A physical therapist is probably your best bet to know your status.
Best,
Susan
