Hi Sadi,
January 10, 2011 - 8:08amThank you for your question and for finding EmpowHER. Menopause is when a woman has not had her period for a full-year, and is a natural thing for women. It doesn't require treatment unless symptoms are bothersome, but many women do visit with a doctor to confirm menopause is happening. What commonly is referred to as "hot flashes" can occur at any time when you are going through menopause. The best thing to do is to visit with your doctor to confirm menopause, and ask about any symptoms you are having. Your doctor may prescribe medication to help relieve those symptoms.
Things you can do at home to try to control symptoms include: eating a healthy diet, getting enough sleep, avoiding alcohol and caffeine, don't smoke, practice exercise daily.
