Q:

How would you know if you had a miscarriage?

I had some spotting 1 week before my period and after reading some articles it sounds like it was implantation bleeding. Two weeks after, I had some cramping and a light bloody discharge. It has been a couple weeks since and I have not gotten my period for last month or this month yet. I took a pregnancy test this morning and I tested negative. Could I possibly had a miscarriage and now have a delayed cycle?

3 months ago I had a reg. 6 day period. Then I started again 4 days for after. 3 or 4 days after my last I only bleed for 2 hrs and was spotting then stoped tell Nexted month. Didn't under stand so I was taking pregancy text after p. Text. Think I was pregnant. The first one was barely positive then 2nd and 3rd one was neg. So I waited tell the Nexted period it was reg. Monthly period. And the Nexted after that. Now this month I did it again like it was 3 months ago. Had reg. 7 day period then started again 6 days after last period and was other light 6 day period. It was odd because I had happen to look down in the toliet and wondered if I have had a miscarriage. There was a line of bloody mucus type thing and one part of it was around I was craping and lower back pain.

Are you trying to become pregnant (meaning: are you having unprotected sex frequently)?

It is impossible to know if you experienced "breakthrough bleeding" (spotting or light bleeding in-between periods) or a very early miscarriage. I would assume you did not have a miscarriage, as a pregnancy test probably would have shown up positive (but not always).

Your cycle may be delayed for many reasons, and we can talk more if you would like to learn more information. Are you trying to become pregnant? Are you using any type of birth control? Are your cycles usually regular?

I have been sexually active for a few months and Im not on birth control yet. Ive used protection everytime because I am not trying to get pregnant. For years my period has been irregular , but I started living in a college dorm in august and then it became regular. Im back home for the summer now though.

If you are using condoms as protection, that further raises the odds that you did not experience a miscarriage. Women can have changes in their "bleeding patterns" for no apparent reason, or they can have a change in their cycles due to excess stress, weight fluctuations, recent illness, new medication, etc.

That is interesting that your cycle became regular when you lived in a dorm, and now that you are back home it is irregular again. Are you experiencing excess stress right now? If not, you might just have some irregularity to your period, and changing environments can lead to enough stress to "throw off" your cycle.

Good for you that you are using protection every time with sex, and please let us know when your period begins!
