I am 58 yrs. old and well past menopause. I have acute asthma that is not under control. I take prednisone, albuterol and other prescriptions. While I was pregnant my asthma disappeared. I am wondering if I started HRT, would it help?

Hello Miscortes, OMG! Thank you! I was on the combi-patch (?) only briefly when I was going thru hot flashes, but my asthma was not bad back then. Seems to be for the last 2 years the asthma has gotten out of control. Thank you again, the info was very helpful.

I had the same experience with progesterone relieving my asthma. I now think there is a link between asthma and hormones, because my asthma onset was at puberty. I too asked my doctor and he said the science shows asthma might be worsened by hormone replacement therapy. The body is an often confusing mystery.

I am so happy to hear that miscortes' information helped you!

I wanted to add: please talk with your doctor before abruptly stopping any medication, and to talk with him/her about all of your symptoms (even if they are seemingly unrelated) to ensure that your doctor can find the best treatment options for you!

We would love to hear what your doctor says, as many women are most likely experiencing the same symptoms as you are!

Hi Grace,

Thank you for your question. I had to do some serious research on this question but unfortunately research suggests the opposite. It appears that the use of hormone replacement therapy actually increases the chances of having asthma. Here are some links for you...

There was actually a lawsuit regarding this specific subject and you can read more about it here

So in actuality, I would think that your asthma symptoms may be subjected to worsen if you used HRT.

I hope this information helps you.
