not for me, really. Friend has settled on two 30s a day and just seems like a normal, reasonable person. He's tried virtually every anti-depressant out there and oxy is the only thing that helps him.
don't know what to tell him -- some of you understand and support, others not so much.
thanks for all the input, it's all good.

I have been prescribed just about every antidepressant created, & nothing seems to help. I am not ignorant to the fact that hydrocodone is is for pain & not depression, but it has been THE ONLY medicine that has ever helped my depression (temporarily, of course). it it doesn't make me high. it just makes me feel like I think "normal" should feel. energetic(not overly energetic, though), content, hopeful, & not in pain.

IS THERE ANY medicine that is not a narcotic that has that effect on your brain?? if not, WHY can't they make one?? it really helps! but on the flip side, ya know it's habit forming, & would take more & mire over a long period of time for the same effect.

does ANYONE know of an antidepressant that really works??? I've been on many different ones since 1993, & they tend to work for a lil while & then it's over. I'm desperate!!! I NEED to feel better!! Please? any help would 've greatly appreciated!

I know I am very late answering this but I just read your post. Hopefully you still find this useful. Try tramadol. It's the only thing that has ever helped me with my physical pain, anxiety and depression and I think it is being prescribed for depression and anxiety now. Not just for physical pain anymore. Highly recommend this! Hope I could help you!

I have Lupus and Fibromyalgia. I take Oxycodone as well as Neurontin for the pain. I am also depressed because of the pain and lack of quality lifestyle and I can tell you the medications make me feel alive and happy and hopeful so yes, I believe they work very well for depression BUT...there are high risks when using narcotics for depression. Be very careful.

it only works temporarily because your body gets use to amount and you no longer get a high off it.
I would rather you take it ...few times a week than have to suffer the hell of major depression. Just be very careful about becoming addicted to it. that is all i would ask...
You know..most addicts who become addicted to it....do it because they also suffer from depression or anxiety etc.
Have you tried any natural products...i doubt they sill help someone with major depression...but even the scent of lavender or lemon verbana can up lift your being..temporarily...also walks in nature.
My husband has major depression and anxiety..in fact we were talking about this yesterday...we use to do long all day hikes every day off...and that plus exercising daily he did not need drugs.
But now we both have severe arthritis ...so we still walk about hour to 2 hours per day...dog walks but we try to go places with hills etc to get some work out..and that always helps both of us..
We like to work out more...so that is one of our next goals..just hard when you do not feel good.
I also can say this...the exercise is much easier to do if you have someone to do it with...get a dog even to make yourself get out in sunshine(which proven to help with depression) and walk for hour or so...longer if you can.
You meet people plus you are out in something beautiful and sun helps...so you cannot lose.
But seriously..when i was suicidal... i go out 3,4 times per day to just make it through the really bad times.
antidepressants like i said..did not work n me either...in fact made it much worse.
Good luck..keep in touch..i know how isolating it can be and lonely...i really been there so understand. love lg

I take hydrocodone somtimes, I was diagnosed with Major Depression and Panic Disorder 3 1/2 years ago. The Anti-depressants gave me horrible side effects, and made my skin break out, and the anxiety pills made me more crazy, and therefore, attempted suicide on them by taking over 20 at one time. Hydrocodone makes me feel much better, and I don't take it everyday..maybe once every couple days. I was prescribed hydrocodone twice from an oral surgery, and for another painful condition that almost killed me. To me, it works. That other crap does not work for me. I hate it.
I will be honest though, Hydrocodone only works for a limited time.

I agree with Susan...plus if you use narcotic pain...with out physical pain...many people get 'high' off it...why so many people become addicted...but anything that gives you an 'high' affect has to come down eventually.
i would think this would just make a person with depression feel much worse...and is setting them up to take more and more pills so they stay 'high'.
Severe Depression...is just so horrible...only way i know to describe it is complete hopelessness...i just cannot see how vicodin would help. When i got it(situation induced) none of the anti depressants worked. Wellbutrin actually made me feel even more crazy ...which later they said it was allergic reaction. Think the best help was finally finding a great doctor who cared...counseling. What would have helped me greatly if I had friends, a job and family support. I could not work due to illness and had moved...i think many of my old friends when they did find out just did not know what to do...or out of sight (since i was far away) they just hoped some how i get better...i do not know...as to family..it is sick ..no one helps...i was the one who always helped all my siblings...but after my experience...I am still tired and figure i guess they prefer to have little or no contact. I was just fooling myself to think they loved me.

I use Hydrocodone for pain issues and I have depression due to brain damage from an accident. This medication cures both pain and depression.I call it (as many do) a wonder drug.I have been using it for years now and have never had addiction issues.

I agree. Anti-depressants do not work for me, but 2 10mg oxi, one in am the other in afternoon, make me feel completely normal. I have been taking for months now and the 2 a day still do the trick. I tried taking more, up to 4 a day, and that's when they started to loose affect. So I dialed it back and now the 2 work well with no loss of affect. I noticed the effect when I had knee surgery and was prescribed the oxi for pain. I personally think they work better for depression than for pain.
