Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Estrogen, follicle stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone and progesterone play key roles in the menstrual cycle.

Rising levels of estrogen are responsible for the build up of the uterine lining or endometrium.

Follicle stimulating hormone is made by the pituitary gland. Its purpose is to get a follicle ready for ovulation.

Luteinizing hormone is made by the pituitary gland. Its purpose is to get a follicle ready for ovulation.

Progesterone is released by the ruptured follicle that has released an egg.

If no pregnancy occurs, the levels of progesterone falls and this along with the decreasing amount of estrogen, helps the built up lining of the uterus to separate and for menstruation to begin.

An imbalance or disruption in this normal hormonal balance has cause you to bleed heavily for only one day, nothing for two days, then have brown discharge, which indicates old blood.

Contact your gynecologist about this. Blood tests to check hormonal levels, including thyroid levels. may be necessary.

Regards,
Maryann
