Q:

I am 51 with severe ra on day 11 of menstrual period. Twice a day prescribed sulfasine and prednisone for ra. Is this strange to have a period still going on this long day eleven?

Hello Anon

Thank you for writing.

This bleeding is not normal - it's going on for far too long.

How long have you been on your RA meds? If you've been on them for some time and this is the first month you're experiencing this bleeding then there may be no connection.

At 51, you may be entering menopause proper - the average age to start is about 52. One of the first changes seen is the menstrual cycle. Longer periods are common.

You can mention this to your doctor to see what she/he thinks regarding your medication vs menopause. Please keep us posted!
