Q:

I am about to start on my Wiley protocol when I start my Day 1 in my cycle. I am unsure when I can safely have sexual intercourse when i start on this protocol. Can anyone advise me what to do?

I do not understand what you mean by "safely" have intercourse?

Are you using the Wiley Protocol, because you are having menopausal symptoms, or have you completed menopause? If you are still having periods, you can still become pregnant...and the Wiley Protocol is not a type of birth control.

Can you clarify what you are asking?

Have you read about the Wiley Protocol, and that this has been shown as an unethical standard of using bioidential hormones that is not regulated and not well-researched? Rosenthal, M.S., The Wiley Protocol: an analysis of ethical issues. Menopause. 2008 Sep-Oct;15(5):1014-22..

Just to let you know the two sides; there are also women who have discussed using the Wiley Protocol on EmpowHER and have found positive results: EmpowHER article: Have you experienced the Wiley Protocol?.

Hi Alison, my doctor recommended the Wiley Protocol as a form of contraception. Thank you for clearing this up for me.

I have been in to see my doctor again to confirm and learn how to use the protocol today. The way it works is that the doctor prescribes the required formula to either assist the lady to minimize the production of oestrogen from day 12 of the cycle so as to minimize the chance of ovulation and so avoid fertilization of the egg. It can also be used to maximize the chance of fertility by prescribing the dosage of oestrodiol and progesterone.
THis protocol is seldom linked with the word 'contraception' in the net.

But if used correctly can be used as a natural method to aid the female hormonal system to produce the correct amount of hormones to either work to fertilize or to reduce the fertility of the female person.
It does require guidance from the doctor intermittently in the initial stages by the lady providing feedback to the doctor about her symptoms, then the next dosages may need to altered to balance the hormonal effects.
Hope this helps.
