Hello Riya,

Welcome to the EmpowHER community. Thank you for seeking our help with your concern about excessive saliva production and its connection to indigestion.

Excessive saliva can be caused by either an increase in your body's production of saliva or a decrease in your ability to swallow or keep saliva in your mouth.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD can cause your body to produce more saliva.

Riya, you mention that you suffer with a gastric problem. What are the symptoms?

GERD is a chronic digestive disease. A weakened esophageal sphincter causes stomach acid to flow back up or reflux into your esophagus. This causes frequent heartburn.

Are you under the care of a gastroenterologist? If not, I strongly urge you to schedule an appointment with one. Your symptoms of excessive saliva, indigestion, and constipation will be evaluated and treated.

If you do have GERD, treatment is very important. The constant backwash of acid can irritate the lining of your esophagus, causing it to become inflamed . Over time, the inflammation can wear away the esophageal lining, causing complications such as bleeding, esophageal narrowing or Barrett's esophagus, which is a precancerous condition.

Regards,
Maryann
