I'm glad to hear that you are being tested as well, and this is an excellent question for both of you to ask your doctors.

Herpes is a virus that never goes away (similar to all virus; they are dormant in our bodies and symptoms can reappear from triggers in the environment, stress, hormones, etc). Depending on the severity of symptoms, no treatment may be needed, however, there are antiviral medications that can help with outbreaks.

Generally, your sex life may change if there is an active lesion from the genital herpes. You may choose to avoid sexual contact, use condoms or dental dams (condoms can be used on sex toys; dental dams are great for oral sex).

Does that help answer your question? Let us know if you have additional questions!
