Hi Anon

Thank you for your question!

We need a lot more information from you in order to be able to help you!

Do you know what is triggering this insomnia? Or this stress? Have you lost a job or are you in financial difficulty? Is your health bad or are you in a relationship that needs help?

It sounds like you are indeed suffering from insomnia and are very stressed. Insomnia can bring great stress and stress can bring insomnia so you need to find the root cause of why you are not sleeping.

Common causes of insomnia:

  • A life crisis or stress, including the loss of a life partner, divorce, or loss of a job
  • Environmental noise
  • Extreme temperatures (like a room that is too hot or too cold)
  • Change in the surrounding environment (one of the most common causes)
  • Sleep/wake schedule problems such as those due to jet lag
  • Hormonal shifts during the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, perimenopause, or menopause
  • Side effects of medicine
    • Nonprescription: diet aids, decongestants, cold and cough remedies
    • Prescription: steroids, theophyllinephenytoin(Dilantin), levodopa

Chronic insomnia sometimes results from the following conditions:

Chronic insomnia may also be due to behavioral factors, including:

  • Misuse of caffeine, alcohol, or other substances
  • Disrupted sleep/wake cycles from shift work or other nighttime activities
  • Chronic stress

In addition, the following behaviors have been shown to perpetuate insomnia in some people:

  • Expecting to have difficulty sleeping and worrying about it—usually starts in young adults
  • Smoking cigarettesbefore bedtime
  • Excessive napping in the afternoon or evening

Anon, I would suggest you see a doctor or therapist as soon as you can to find out why you are not sleeping. Then together you can work in finding a solution. Insomnia is very bad for both your physical and mental health so doing this very soon is important.

Will you keep us posted?
