Hi Anon -

Welcome to EmpowHER and thanks for your question!

There are a number of reasons why you may be having hip pain, which is common in women. The causes can include overuse/sports injuries as well as arthritis, hip fractures, tendinitis, bursitis, back issues, a hernia and gynecological issues. Another cause is excess weight, which puts extra pressure on the hip joints.

Since the pain has increased it would be best to see your family doctor who can help determine both the cause and the treatments that can help relieve your pain. He/she will likely want to take some x-rays to see if there are physical causes for the pain, such as osteoarthritis, which impacts people of all ages, and is a breakdown in the cartilage covering the ends of bones where they meet to form a joint and allow movement. Depending on the initial findings, you may also need to see a specialist.

It's not easy living with pain, so I hope you will schedule an appointment as soon as possible so you can get the answers and support you need. Let us know if this helps!

Best,

Pat
