Diagnosed in 2000. Sometimes can manage the pain with medication. My Doctor informed me the FDA is going to start regulating some of the medication I take and I am not sure what to do. I have a whirlpool standing tub that was quite expensive, however, I cannot stay in the tub constantly. My is widespread pain all over especially in the legs right now.

I live in the USA, in the state of Indiana and Mobic is still on the market here! I take it twice a day along with tramadol & meloxicam, with loratab for breakthrough pain. Vioxx was taken off the market a few years back. I was on it at that time, my specialist put me on Mobic as a replacement. I wish they would put Vioxx back on the market. Nothing works as well as it.

I'm sorry, that's my mistake. I was thinking of the recall and new warning inserts from 2008. Thank you for setting me straight!

There is a new replacement for Mobic. Ask your doctor. I find that just over the counter Ibruproben (3 tablets) helps break a flare-up in pain. If that helps anyone I am glad. I feel so alone. I wish there was a group that set up groups of 8 people who could do a teleconference every 2 weeks so we could talk with people with similar symptoms. Maybe that is my next job in life- unless someone is doing it already. Right now I run a nonprofit for victims of identity theft. I know the power of talking with others who have been there or are there.

by the way, my name is Linda and if there is interest we can set up a group in San Diego CA. or Southern Calif. Please don't all overflow me with solutions. I don't have time to read them. I only want to hear from people willing to do a support group. And we need a physician/therapist leader.

Hi Linda (and other women diagnosed with fibromyalgia),

EmpowHER has created an online support group:

We are happy to talk with you more about this group, or please feel free to create your own group (https://www.empowher.com/groups).

Hi Donna

I'm sorry you have so much pain. You're right, that's a lot of medication. I'm not sure what country you are in, I was assuming the US but Mobic was taken off the market here several years ago. Are you in physical therapy or do you do some type of exercise program? It has been shown in studies that light exercise on a regular basis decreases fibro pain. Many areas have Arthritis Foundation sponsored low cost warm water exercise programs specifically for fibro patients.

Do you see a pain specialist? A pain clinic might be helpful to you if you are not already being seen by a pain specialist. They have a lot of tricks up their sleeves for chronic pain sufferers.

I wonder about your diet. For instance, eating cold water fish several times a week is scientifically proven to decrease inflammation. Often fibro docs will also prescribe supplements such as vitamin D, magnesium, and other things to decrease inflammation.

Do you see your primary provider regularly? I see you are on several cardiac medications, and leg pain can sometimes be related to that as well as fibro. So I would hope that is being tracked as well. Circulatory problems in your legs can be very painful. In addition, part of the reason Mobic was discontinued was because it isn't a good drug for cardiac patients. You might ask your provider about that just to be safe.

I don't see any typical pain meds in your list. Muscle relaxers and drugs for nerve pain, sedatives and anxiolytics, and Fioricet which is a barbituate med usually used for headache, but maybe it's time for you to have a pain medication like a hydrocodone or something similar. If you had a narcotic prescribed as needed for those extra bad days, it might help.

I think your best bet is a pain consult with a specialist. There may be a more efficient and effective way to treat your pain. Also, if you are not exercising, you should definitely start. A walking program or warm water exercise can make a huge difference, even if you start with just 5 minutes a day.

We have a page on fibro: https://www.empowher.com/condition/fibromyalgia. This site discusses pain specialties and pain management: http://www.pain.com/go/default/, and the American Pain Foundation is an advocacy and education group for people suffering from chronic pain: http://www.painfoundation.org/
You might also check the National Fibromyalgia Association, which has support, education, and lists of fibro-friendly doctors: http://www.fmaware.org/site/PageServer?pagename=homepage

I think it is time for you to grab this pain by the tail and take charge. Find a pain doc, get some activity going, and advocate for yourself. Sometimes health providers have a hard time treating patients with chronic pain. We are frustrating. We don't always get better. Doctors in particular like to "fix" things, and sometimes we aren't fixable, we need to manage. So sometimes chronic pain patients get put on the back burner because they seem needy or frustrating. Don't let this happen to you.

I'm glad you wrote. If I can help further, please let me know. Good luck.

Try Meloxicam, it is a replacement for Mobic

Hi Donnalee
I'm not sure what your diagnosis is, or why you have pain. This would be very important to help you with strategies to control pain. Treatments for say, nerve pain, vary greatly from treatments for broken arm pain. So if you could give a little more detail as to what the pain is from and what medications you are already using, I'm sure I can help you with some resources and advice.
Please write again with a little more detail if you are comfortable doing so. Thank you for using our site.

I was diagnosed in 2000 with Fibromyalgia. I have constant widespread pain. I am currently on several medications Savella
50 mg (twice a day) Neurotin 600 mg. 4 times a day. Soma (300 mg) up to 3 times a day for muscle contractions. I have to take Ambien (10) to sleep. I have been diagnosed with Panic Disorder also. I have been on cymbalta and Vioxx before. Sometimes I am ok however when the weather is bad is when my pain seems to radiate first in was in my shoulders, massage therapy helped, then my arms again massage therapy help. It gets expensive for someone on a fixed income but I did manage. Now it has settled in my legs. I wear compression hose and have an aero spa machine similar to the stockings the hospital puts on you after surgery.
My other medications are Ativan, Corguard, Diovan Mobic, Allerga, Fiorcet, Norvasc, Premarin, and Prevacid. A lot of medications. If you know of other resources and advise please let me know I would appreciate it.
Thanks
Donna
