Q:

I am a type 2 diabetic and I have an uncontrollable sweet tooth. Are there strategies or food substitutes that I can have instead?

I don't like artificial sweeteners and some of them give me diarrhea. My last A1c was 5.5 I don't think that it will be that low next time. I also follow a vegan diet. Sometimes I may have a dairy product but try to avoid them as a rule.

There are TONS of food strategies for diabetics who enjoy dessert!

Here are just a few I found:
- Myrecipes: Diabetic Desserts
- WebMD: 7 Health Desserts for Your Diabetes Diet
- Better Homes and Gardens: Diabetic Dessert Recipes

You can also go to any bookstore and find dozens (if not hundreds) of diabetic cookbooks.

Most importantly, are you meeting regularly with a Registered Dietitian (R.D.), to understand your dietary needs and create a meal plan together?
