It sounds like you may have a callus, where the skin on your foot will thicken up to protect itself when there are areas of high pressure.
The primary reasons for calluses are from poor-fitting shoes, and high pressure on certain parts of your foot. You can exfoliate these areas, and if you have any pain, it is important to call a Podiatrist. There are special shoe inserts that can take away pressure from specific points on your foot. However..the first thing to do would be to make sure your shoes are fitting properly!
