Look, you took the emergency contraceptive within the advised time following unprotected sex. So, if the Plan B website says the pill is 95% effective, do the math...

There is a 95% chance you did not get pregnant. There is a 5% chance that you did get pregnant.

By the way, if you re-read what I said about ovulation, the next sentence, " As you get closer to your period, your chances are still good."  refers to the chances of getting pregnant. Chances of getting pregnant was what I was talking about.

Changes in your period (coming earlier or later) is a side effect of Plan B. Taking Plan B messed up your normal menstrual cycle.

Do you get it now?

i took the EC on monday which was within 24 hours but my period is late, accordding to my birth control pack i should have started yesterday. could the EC be messing up my period? th plan b website said if taken within the first 24 hours it is 95% effective. have i significantly lowered my chances of becoming pregnant? i just worry because i havent got my period yet. i also didnt finish my birth control pack so shouldnt skipping two pills have jump started my period ? exspecially by now.

I cannot predict what your chances of pregnancy are.

Birth control pills are effective when taken every day, at the same time each day.

According to Planned Parenthood,

"You could become pregnant depending on when you miss pills and how many of them you miss. There is a highly increased chance of pregnancy if you go without hormones for seven or more days in a row. This could happen if you don’t start a new pack on time and/or forget to take the last one or two pills in the pack.

You may need a backup method of birth control if you have vaginal intercourse during the seven days after a missed pill."

Ovulation, when an ovary releases an egg, usually happens about 2 weeks before the start of a period. The changes of getting pregnant are greatest are 2 to 3 days before and 1 to 2 days after ovulation. As you get closer to your period, your chances are still good.

About the remaining two pills, Planned Parenthood says to

  • Do not finish pack. Throw away remaining pills.
  • Start next pack.

Honestly, since you could or could not be pregnant, use another form of birth control, like condoms, sponge, female condoms, until you get your period. If your period is late by at least a week, test for pregnancy.

If you get your period, you can start a new pack of birth control pills.

So I'm clear, there was one day when you did not take a birth control pill at all. You had sex on that day. How long ago was that? Emergency contraceptive is effective if taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex.

If you were at the end of the cycle of active pills, you may have already ovulated. Hard to say.

If you get your period, then you are not pregnant. If you don't get your period, wait at least one week and take a home pregnancy test.

Did this help at all?
