Q:

I had a complete hysterectomy 6 years ago and I am now 44. I battle belly fat even after loosing 25 lbs. I've been told it is because I don't have hormones any more and I have never been on HRT since my hysterectomy. Would a natural HRT help me?

I've been told without hormones, I will continue to store fat in my abdominal region, and there is nothing I can do. I recently lost 25 lbs. and still suffer from embarassment because of my dimpled belly fat. I vowed I would wear a bikini as soon as I lost weight, and fact is, I am repulsed at the sight of my own abdomen. I work out 5 days a week with no changes. Would natural HRT help me? I am not interested in pill popping, but hope maybe there is a natural alternative for me out there.

I had a partial hysterectomy in 2008 and a total hysterectomy in 2012. Since that time I have gained over 85lbs. The physician that did my total hysterectomy felt that it was best that I did not take any type of hormonal replacement due to me having endometriosis. However; I found a physician that felt that I should have been given some type of hormone replacement. Since I have been on the hormone replacement I feel pretty much like my old self prior to the hysterectomy. I located a weight loss clinic where I live and the physician prescribed me an appetite suppressant. I have taking every day for almost 3 months and I have also incorporated walking. I have lost 10lbs and I am loosing a lot of the excess belly weight (inches). Its is a start and I still have a long way to go.. I encourage every woman that has had a hysterectomy to try walking and it will help out a lot.. Good Luck..

I had a full hysterectomy almost 2 years ago and gained almost 20 lbs. since then. I started walking (am up to 15 miles a week) and changing my eating habits. I have lost 9 lbs. in 3 weeks, so it does work.

I'm worn out! I'm 44 and I have all of the above...my surgery was 4 months ago. I was so excited because after removing a 6lb fibroid tumor, I could finally tuck in my shirt. Well within the past 30 t0 40 days the pounds have packed on. I'm always hungry, I'm bloated, my arms, double chin..........I look like a full-back for the Denver Broncos. I've concluded to just starve myself, basically a soup diet. No solids!!!

Request/demand a thyroid test. Drs are their for our benefit not the other way around. You will destroy whatever metabolism you have left if you eat only liquids. Try no wheat, low sodium. I have had the best success by eating no wheat and following the IFYM way of eating.

I recently (4/2014) had a hysterectomy (leaving my ovaries) due to fibroids that were continuously growing. I fought the hysterectomy for nine years by having two UFEs. I'm 56 and went through menopause about 2 years ago. I weigh 134 now and weighed about the same prior to my surgery. I always had a pretty good shape, but since my Hysterectomy my body is totally different, my stomach is HUGE and my butt is now flat as a pancake. I am not on hormones and last night I had a bladder or a bowel prolapse (not sure which - Drs apt next Friday). Having a Hysterectomy was the worst thing I have ever done.

Hi can you tell me what you did to lose the weight? I had my hysterectomy 13 months ago, I still have one ovary. And no matter what I do, the weight will NOT come off, but as far as my stomach goes, I figured out the bloating part, you can no longer eat carbs, that means rice, bread, pasta basically sugar!! you will blow up and feel very crappy, so I know to stay away from those. I need to lose 40 pounds, please tell me what you did or take to lose 71 pnds. Please and thank you

I had a Hystorectomy at age 36 with bladder repair at one point i lost weight using Carbolife with ephedrine and it worked... Then they took it off the market... I am now 48 last August had to have back surgery 2 stage. first was with nuerospine surgeon and another vascular surgeon they cut me from the belly button down to access my spine they removed debris and inserted 4 cages.. 2 and a half days later they cut into my back dual incision to install 2 rods and 6 screws.. Now I am extremely limited to exercise as I can't bend lift etc... Any way my stomach bloats and my lower abdomen looks like a second butt... I am embarassed by my body. I don't like the way I look I was hit by a car at age 43 while working as a police officer.. I have a knee that is bone on bone waiting for a knee brace as well as an overactive central nervous system. I am looking to lose the weight hoping it can help control many things including anxietyor panic attacks.. need to get weight off for my cevical spine as well and nerve damage in my arm.. I do not over eat and I have never had hormone replacements nor has any Dr. ever tested me

Hi Christina, I happened to come across this website and your post regarding belly fat after a hysterectomy, I had a total hysterectomy when I was in my 20.s I am now 55 yrs old , anyway I hear you about the belly fat, I only weigh 120, but after my hysterectomy I could never get rid of the belly, it was impossible, that is a direct cause of the hysterectomy, the Dr.s don't tell you things like that before surgery at all? they keep you in the dark about a lot of after surgeries issues, including depression. I wouldn't say my belly is fat, I would say its always a bit bloated and some days it almost looks like Im a couple months pregnant lol..., some days worse than other... it really odd, since the rest of me is petite, just could never get rid of that bloating look, I ususally don't tuck in my shirts and just wear a baggie shirt to hide it, Ive come to the conclusion theres not much that can be done about the bloating belly look, and it has nothing to do with constipation, its all related to hormones, lack there of I guess, well take care Christina you can email me back if you have any questions regarding, anything to do with estrogen/hysteectomys.., just be sure you put something familiar in the subject line in case it goes in the junk mail...good luck Christina :)
