i have been diagnosed of PCOS. The doctor has asked me to take combined contraceptive for three months. my worr is that, i have liver disease. please, should i go ahead and take the drug?

When you say combined contraceptive, do you mean you are taking a birth control pill?

Taking birth control pills can affect your liver disease negatively. I would suggest not taking the pill as a birth control option or to help with your PCOS, because it can have affects on the liver (especially if you have liver disease.)

However, there are some different options of treatment for your PCOS that you can consider. Some options include:

• Exercising on a regular basis
• Insulin resistance and prediabetes management
• Oral contraceptive
• Anti-androgenic medications
• Eating healthy foods and sticking to a low-fat diet

I would also mention to your doctor that you are concerned about taking the pill due to your liver disease. They should be able to talk about other treatment options for PCOS that won't interfere with your liver disease.
